181/365: Beer Amber
Orange, yellow and amber hues from a nice glass of beer.
A couple Italian sausages for dinner along with fixings - mustard, Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce, sport peppers, grilled onions and baked potato chips on the side.
Took part in my first Critical Mass bike ride. Lots of fun riding through the city and causing traffic! An angry driver and his passenger actually got out of their car which caused nearby bikers to band together and surround the car like a swarm of bees. Outnumbered, the driver got back in his car and waited it out.
I lost my wedding band...for awhile. During my softball game, my band slipped off my finger as I went to catch a fly ball. I wasn't able to stop the game to find it so I had to wait until the game was over. Right after the game ended, my teammates went back out onto the field to help me find it. Luckily (for me) one of them did!
From the Village of Tinley Park's website (http://www.tinleypark.org/tourism/art_culture/activities/benches/content.asp):
For the sixth season, the Village of Tinley Park's Main Street Commission is proud to feature Benches On The Avenue, an exciting public art project in downtown Tinley Park. This program has been a huge success in generating local resident and tourist interest as well as promoting an appreciation of the arts. This year, 19 benches have been placed along Oak Park Avenue showcasing original artwork based on the theme “Classic TV ”.
On the way home from a friend's get together, I smelled something burning. Next thing we knew smoke was coming out from under the hood. Luckily we were able to drive the car to a nearby gas station where an off duty mechanic was able to help us out. The cause - broken timing belt and an air compressor issue.
What to do on a rainy day before a friend's birthday celebration? Make a bacon explosion!
The heavy rain lightened up, and the sun broke through the dark gray skies which resulted in this rainbow forming.
To anyone who's trying to be active and doesn't have one of these, go get one - a heart rate monitor. It's a good way to find out how to get the most out of your workouts.
After a long day's work, sometimes you just need to veg out and chill over some real Mexican food and a margarita. Haven't had one of these things in awhile. This 42 oz strawberry margarita at Burrito Jalisco in Tinley Park was tasty and refreshing.
Due to some new hires, our department did a little shuffling and I moved a few desks over. After putting away files and stacks of paperwork in my new storage space, my new work area was definitely picture worthy - all that countertop space you see will disappear when the paperwork reappears again.
I'm not much for taking candids, but I saw this couple sitting on a bench staring out into a pond having a nice time together in each other's company.
The Chicago Cares Serve-a-thon is the largest day of community service in Chicago, and this is my 5th year participating. We painted the lockers and classrooms of Bowden High School on the south side. Had a great time!
Okay, I'll be honest - the eight sausages that you see before me aren't all mine...only five of them:
1) The Kiera Knightley, a red hot
2) The Salma Hayek, andouille sausage
3) The Marty Allen (who is this guy?), thuringer
4) Smoked Debriziner with Bacon Garlic Mayonnaise and Smoked Gouda Cheese
5) Rattlesnake Sausage with Cocoa Cardona Cheese and Sweet Curry Mustard
Only one of those orders of duck fat fries is mine too. So is that diet coke.
As much as working from home really sucks, it is nice to put everything on a flash drive so I don't have to bring any paperwork with me.
Went fishing today. Didn't catch any fish (not even a nibble), but I did manage to catch this shot of a family of geese floating on the lake together
I moved to Tinley Park last September. It was a little bit of an adjustment from living in the city to the south suburbs, but I can honestly say I don't mind living here. Tinley has everything you can think of within just minutes of you. And you have photographic opportunities to take shots like this one at Centennial Park.
There's only two seasons in Chicago - winter and construction. Glad winter's over.
I learned a photography lesson - when transferring camera contents from one bag to another, make sure to completely empty out the bag you don't plan on using. I didn't realize I had forgotten the quick release plate for my tripod head until I had my first shot set up. Luckily, I had my Joby Gorillapod in my bag and was able to secure the camera...the hard way!
My crowded wardrobe consists of 3 types of shirts:
1) button up dress shirts for work
2) dri-fit shirts for doing active things
3) wrestling t-shirts (because wrasslin's still real to me dammit)
Time to make space and get organized. These closet hangers really work!
We have fuzzies (our two cats), fishies (a bunch), and now furries - 3 rats. Now that school's out, my teacher wife brought her classroom rats home so she can take care of them for the summer.
